ELDT School Bus Endorsement Theory Course

image

Prepare to safely and professionally transport one of the most important cargoes on the road — students. The ELDT School Bus Endorsement Theory Course is designed to provide current CDL holders and permit holders with the federally required Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) theory instruction needed to obtain the School Bus (S) endorsement. This comprehensive online or classroom-based course delivers the foundational knowledge required by FMCSA Training Provider Registry (TPR) standards before taking the state-administered School Bus endorsement exam.

Students will learn the specialized responsibilities of school bus operation, including loading and unloading procedures, student management, danger zones, railroad crossing procedures, emergency evacuation protocols, mirror usage, defensive driving techniques, and state and federal safety regulations. The course also emphasizes professionalism, passenger safety, hazard awareness, and the unique operating challenges faced by school bus drivers in residential, rural, suburban, and urban environments.

This course satisfies the federally required ELDT theory training portion for the School Bus endorsement; however, students should be aware that additional behind-the-wheel (BTW) training and evaluation are also required by FMCSA regulations prior to obtaining the endorsement. SAGE Truck Driving Schools does not provide the required School Bus endorsement behind-the-wheel training. Students must complete the practical vehicle training portion through another FMCSA-approved training provider that offers School Bus endorsement BTW instruction.

Designed for flexibility and accessibility, this theory-only course is ideal for individuals seeking employment with school districts, private transportation contractors, childcare transportation providers, and community organizations. Upon successful completion, the required ELDT theory training certification is electronically submitted to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry, allowing students to continue the endorsement process with a qualified BTW training provider and state testing agency.
